Manno Charlemagne's cameo appearance in The Truth About Charlie

 Manno Charlemagne was born on April 14, 1948 and grew up in Carrefour, a community outside of Port-au-Prince home to many of the poor country folk who moved to the capital region in search of opportunities.  

His art and activism were rigidly intertwined in his protest songs that the condemned haitianite which allowed the wealthy of the island to not care nothing about the struggles of people trying to earn their daily bread.  Haitian political folk singer, songwriter and acoustic guitarist, political activist and politician. He recorded his political chansons in both French and in Creole. He lived abroad in exile twice, both during the 1980s and again during the years 1991–1994, when the country was ruled by a military junta led by Raoul Cédras.

The Estate of Manno Charlemagne is honored to announce the forthcoming collaboration of 

Léa Kokoyé: A Musical. 

This musical adaption of Maurice A. Sixto's beloved oral literature about an impoverished young woman surviving and supporting her family in Haiti will introduce a new generation to the troubadour folk melodies and lyrics that made Manno Charlemagne iconic. 

Adapted and translated into English by Jenna Chrisphonte, we look forward to sharing Manno Charlemagne's contribution to the Haitian intellectual tradition of using music to advocate on behalf of the poor, oppressed and vulnerable with audiences across the world. This project is undertaken with the generous support of the Fondation Maurice A. Sixto.
